General Information

For our Imagination daycare students…

Our private music lessons are scheduled once per week, and a session includes 10 private lessons.

The lessons occur when our students are present at school in our special music classroom at Imagination.

The lessons last for a duration of 30 minutes.

Our lessons are unique one-on-one instruction with a professional, kind and dedicated music teacher who specializes in teaching children music.

After each session we also have a password-protected blog page for each of our students where we will update their parents many times within the school year.

In each of our courses, the lessons are child-centered and we present everything in a joyful way with many games and songs to develop important skills.

We teach to the individual child to help them grow in their own way, as they show signs of readiness, step-by-step.

Our students have fun in every lesson and feel confident in their blossoming musical talents.

What is the course Introduction to Music?

In our “Introduction to Music” course, our students get to experience their music lessons through play.  In these lessons, we never sit still.

We are always moving, playing, singing and creating together.

The children explore and learn in their music class through…

Playing many rhythm instruments

Developing skills through ukulele playing

Singing simple songs and nursery rhymes, in both French and English

Scarf and finger play

Reading musical rhythms and singing solfeggio

Call and response songs to develop singing different musical intervals

Growing to sing solos with confidence and tunefully

Singing and listening to story song tales to develop concentration and memory

Learning about different musical instruments and ensembles

Learning about and playing different musical dynamics, symbols, articulations and tempos

Improvising and creating their own compositions

What is the course Introduction to Music with an Instrument?

In our “Introduction to Music with an Instrument” course, half of the lesson focusses on developing musical skills away from our student’s instrument of choice, and half of the lesson focuses on the foundations of violin or piano playing.

We teach our students by rote to start, as we believe this is the most appropriate way to teach a child music before they turn 5 years old.

And as our students mature, we slowly start to introduce music reading skills to them.  Usually this involves identifying and demonstrating an understanding of special musical forms, playing special fingerings and musical patterns (such as scales and arpeggios), identifying and playing musical rhythms, and understanding other important musical symbols and concepts (such as dynamics and articulations).

This sets the foundation for a more formal music reading education when they reach kindergarten

In this course, our students also have the opportunity to play in our “My First Recital” event which we host every June.  Usually we reserve this for our graduating daycare students.

It is so important for our students to prepare a solo and play for a live audience (their parents and friends) for the very first time in a safe loving place.

And to prepare for that special day, it always brings such joy and confidence within our students

What are your Private Group Classes?

In our private group classes, we pair two friends of similiar ability to have their lesson together.  This encourages and enhances our student’s musical learning and skills in a social setting in so many crucial ways.

When our students have private music group classes with a friend, it….

Increases motivation and inspiration

Reinforces information learned in the one-on-one lesson setting

Gives opportunities to play music together

Creates a safe environment to perform music for each other

We will let you know if we recommend private group classes for your child.

Is it possible for my child to continue their studies with their private music teacher after Imagination?

Yes!  We accept a few new students every school year!

Currently we have 30 students, ages 5-16 studying piano and violin with us.

Please contact us if you are interested and we can let you know if there is a spot available.

Why Music Education for our children?

In today’s world, to support our children in studying music through an instrument, we are raising intelligent, good and well-rounded beings.  For music represents it all.

Studying music brings our children opportunities to learn how to practice consistently in our work and to accomplish long term goals.

Studying music brings our children opportunities to connect and inspire through their art.  And to bring people together, like in our concerts and recitals, while representing different cultures, different styles, representing history throughout different parts of the world.

Also, learning through music has such a profound impact on our children’s brains, boosting memory, language, and mathematical skills, focus, as well as strengthening their emotional intelligence.

And it brings us together as families as we guide our child with their music teacher.

And so thank you for learning about our music program here on this webpage.

If you are here, we are sure you believe in this like we do!  And we would be very honoured for your child to join our music lesson program!
